Why Agile Development of Large-Scale Products Is So Hard (& What To Do About It) by Kevin Thompson

February 18, 2021 By Anurag Shrivastava

Why Agile Development of Large-Scale Products Is So Hard Agile20Reflect Festival

While hardware development and software development are not the same, they face similar issues with respect to unclear product definition, scope creep, unpredictability, and the impact of disruptive events on design and schedule. The Agile approaches to planning and managing software development have proven effective in addressing these issues, and are now known to provide similar benefits for development of hardware and integrated hardware-software products as well.

This presentation will provide an overview of how large-scale integrated product development can be structured and performed. We will discuss team-definition concepts, the use of Scrum as a team-level process for hardware and software development, and the Agile Program Management concepts that weave the teams into an effective whole.

This presentation will present basic concepts in Agile governance. It will introduce effective techniques for defining Portfolio business cases and evaluating their suitability for funding and execution.

About the speaker: Kevin Thompson, Ph.D., has a doctorate in Physics from Princeton University, and extensive background in managing software development projects. He provides executive and organizational consulting and training in the area of Agile hardware and software product development. As former Chief Scientist of Cprime, he developed all of the company’s Agile training classes and pioneered the application of Scrum and Agile concepts to the development of hardware products. He currently works as an independent consultant. He is the author of Solutions for Agile Governance in the Enterprise (Sage): Agile Project, Program, and Portfolio Management for Development of Hardware and Software Products.

by Sabrina C E Bruce and Karl Smith

Yesterdays Agile world our hosts Sabrina C E Bruce and Karl Smith has Shelby Wilson and Yusuf Dean joining them to look back at the most memorable events they attended including the Power of Gratitude, Agile Fashion Management on personal agile brand sessions. Talking about Personal Agility, then the Agile Ethics session.

The Agile20Reflect Festival including our hosts also had sheer panic as they were experiencing some issue with the Agile20 Reflect Meetup platform and the disappearing event.

Lucky we have not fixed it :)
