eduScrum: How to collaborate in education with Agile

February 20, 2021 By Anurag Shrivastava

Join us to hear from the founder of a world-wide community that is rapidly growing around the application of Scrum to education.

Willy Wijnands is a dedicated and highly-experienced Chemistry & Science teacher based in the Netherlands. He draws parallels between Scrum and the education environment, and his application of Scrum in the classroom achieves astonishing learning and development outcomes. Not just improved marks, but strong and positive personal development.
Now more widely adopted, he has co-created a context specific Scrum framework for education and gained many fans (including Jeff Sutherland the co-creator of Scrum).

Willy will explain that the starting principle is the autonomy and authenticity of people, and that he believes children and young adults do take responsibility and can work together independently:

– Students work together in an energetic, effective and focused way.

– Small teams self-organize their work and thereby learn engagement, commitment and taking responsibility.

– They train to self-reflect and give feedback to themselves and to their classmates.

– And most importantly: students go through strong and positive personal development. They get to know their own qualities and find out how to use their own resources.

During this session
1) Willy will share his experience in implementing Scrum in education and the benefits it brings.

2) eduScrum as a Scrum based on the iterative process and you can participate in the Scrum Puzzle Iteration game to feel the power of iterations. This game is a part of the workshop and will be ran by the represent of eduScrum in Russia, Ekaterina Bredikhina —an author of the game and co-assistant of the workshop.
