Uncover & Slice the Elephant and Motivate Agile Teams

February 26, 2021 By Anurag Shrivastava

Motivation is often cited as the issue #1 when it comes to failing projects and similarly often taken as a given in agile projects. What can you do if you feel that your team isn’t entirely motivated?

I’m Barbara Dravec and here’s my journey with an agile project team that very early on pointed out that they fear “some project team members” lack the motivation and drive to complete the project.
Motivation is a multilayer concept. Since Daniel Pink’s fantastic compilation “Drive” that lays out the vast field of motivational research and related topics it’s possible to navigate the topic for a non-psychologist agile coach like myself. I’ll provide some helpful tips and tricks, methods and concepts how you could go about dealing, improving and solving motivational issues with agile teams.

The Festival’s Your Agile Story Reflection Survey

February 1, 2021 By Anurag Shrivastava

When the Festival’s Chief Pirate (Scott Seivwright) ask me if we could do something big for the festival he shared that “…This is a really important survey and we hope as many people as possible complete these. Seeing what gets collected will be an awesome record of the last 20 years and a great artifact for future research.” Lets all get involved with this and create a great archive.

Agile20 Reflect in partnership with the Remote Agility Framework are embracing community movement that started Agile to peer into the future of agility around the world. We want to make sure everyone has an opportunity to participate so we’ve attached a reflection template everyone can use throughout the course of the festival.

The survey will be facilitated in retrospective format around the world throughout the festival. We’d love you to use a tool of your choice (Miro, Mural, Jamboard etc.) to capture your story with digital sticky notes:

Kicking off: put your name(s) and location somewhere on the template so that we know who you are. Be as creative as you want 🙂

Question one (at the signpost): Put some notes down which describe your perspective on the current state of agility in your community

Question two (left of the signpost): thinking back from today, what were some key moments that influenced you leading up to Agile Reflect 2020? e.g. in the late 1990s Jeff De Luca pioneered aspects of FDD working with Melbourne banks

Question three (at the treasure chest): thinking forward from today, what key moments might lead us to a brighter future in your community?

Question four (at the dragon): thinking forward from today, what key moments might lead us away from that bright future?

The template for the survey can be downloaded from the event link.

Once completed, share an export with John (john.tooth@remoteaf.co) by the 17th of February to be included as an input to in the Future Possibilities for Agile and the Community Panel Discussion being held on the 22nd of February. In this panel discussion, Sonja Blignaut, Andrew Blain, Johanna Rothman, Mark Kilby and Jim Benson will provide their interpretations and predictions of what’s coming next based on your collective stories!

After the festival, the Remote Agility Framework will distil the insights from the received submissions for everyone to share.

If you have any questions or would like support, please reach out to the event organiser on Slack or via email.
