SUMMARY:The Context Behind the Manifesto(s)
DESCRIPTION:In 2001\, a group of expert practitioners came together at Snowbird ski resort in Utah. Over a period of a days\, between skiing and relaxing – they spent much time talking and sharing ideas. Whilst many do not know why they came together\, we do know what they came up with – The Agile Manifesto. (https://agilemanifesto.org/ ). What they couldn’t have known\, was the widespread impact this would have for technology and businesses 20 years later. \nHowever\, what isn’t well understood by most people is that each of the attendees had their areas of expertise. What isn’t well recognised is that the purpose of the gathering in 2001 was to identify common themes and principles underpinning each of these successful principles / delivery approaches. \nHowever\, from 2015 – 2017 a number of other takes on agility were published:\n– a blog outlining Modern agile was launched\n– the Agnostic Agile principles were published https://agnosticagile.org/\n– Heart of Agile by Alistair Cockburn was published \nEach of these methods was developed in response to the environment around it at that time. As a practitioner – understanding the thinking and intent behind the development of the agile manifesto is critical to learn how to apply it correctly. This session promises to open the door to some fascinating insights. \nThe purpose of this event is to explore the context behind each of these manifestos by those who had written them. \n1 – The why behind the Agile Manifesto – late 1990s and early 2000s\nWhy did these experts get together and why did they want to write and agile manifesto?
